Summer is glorious. Spring undoubtedly fresh and fragrant. And who doesn’t love the colours of Autumn. But there is something about a winter wedding at Tythe that makes our hearts beat a little faster. The Tythe estate is undeniably enchanting throughout the winter months, providing an effortlessly romantic backdrop of crisp air and frost-covered trees. Here are ten reasons to book your snow-covered celebration . . .

It’s the most romantic season

From December 1st the sun sets at Tythe around 4pm so light up your party with one or all of our favourite options. Dine in the Thatched Barn under our giant antique crystal chandeliers. Gather in our gardens beneath a canopy of pretty festoon lights dotted around the estate. Sip on cocktails by our outside wood-burners, illuminated by fairy lights. Or, for the ultimate romantic Christmas photo backdrop, ask for our festive, tree-shaped lights for the grounds. Nothing will keep the party going longer.

Everyone looks good in candlelight

Place them at mixed heights on your tables to softly illuminate all your favourite faces. Line your aisle for the ultimate romantic entrance. Use them to decorate your ceremony arch for a twinkling backdrop to your vows. Or, for an extra special touch, place them in the nooks of our old stone barns and bring a magical glow to your party. As we are a privately owned family business, we can say yes to candlelight when so many other venues can’t. We just ask that the naked flame sits below the candle holder.

It’s movie-scene magical

It’s hard to beat a wedding morning that begins in the cosy comfort of our family farmhouse, the smell of log fires burning and a freshly laid snowscape outside, frost clinging to tree branches and statues made white with snowflakes. For pure Narnia vibes, what could be better than a beautiful frosty walk across to the church for your service? We’ll have the mulled wine warming for your return.

Feast on family favourites

Forget light and delicate dishes, this is the season of indulgence. Succulent roasts you’ll carve at the table; comforting winter pies and bakes, and granny’s preferred pudding – all washed down with lashings of ripe red wine to warm your cheeks and your hearts.

Bring the outside in

If you marry from mid-November to early January our incredible winter branches can feature as part of your décor. We’ll gather them from the surrounding fields and farmland and hang them with hundreds of fairy lights around the Thatched Barn and converted Cowshed. In the barn this creates a magical suspended arch that stretchesthe whole length of the space.

It’s big sky beautiful

Nothing is more glorious than sitting with a post-dinner espresso martini, stargazing with your besties as you soak up the heat from one of our outdoor wood burners. No cold fingers and toes here, they are available year-round. You’ll be cosied up under a sheepskin or woollen blanket placing bets on who will make it to sunrise.

Cocktails taste better in Winter

And especially so if you’ve hired our in-house mixologist, Connor, who will create something truly bespoke for you and your guests. Maybe there is an ingredient that feels particularly relevant to you? Or a favourite flavour you associate with this special time of year. Leave it to him. All you have to do is decide how you’d like to serve them – dressed in winter eucalyptus and pine cones on one of our cocktail carts; under the willow tree on the farmhouse lawns or in front of a roaring log fire back in the house. Speaking of which . . .

The fire will be waiting for you

Close out this special day just as it began, back in front of the flickering flames of a real log fire. If you book The Farmhouse for an overnight stay, you will have enough wood to keep you cosy – from when your guests first arrive for supper the night before the wedding to the final breakfast before you all depart. It’s the perfect backdrop for chatting, reminiscing and making memories.
