About Tythe

TYTHE IS A FAMILY BUSINESS, FOUNDED IN 1998.

The estate is set on our working farm in the small Oxfordshire village of Launton. With an emphasis on the simple, honest and down to earth we offer an idyllic rural escape where guests can adapt our setting to suit their needs. Think game-changing spaces where you can party, brainstorm, marry or relax. As one of the most established barn venues in the country, Tythe sets a high standard and offers guests expert planning. Our selection of restored barns, accommodation and pretty manicured gardens are hired exclusively, for the perfect adult playground.

Timeline

1086

Manor Farm, of which The Thatched Barn is part of, is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

1370

The Grade II listed Thatched Barn dates back to the 14th century and features thick stone walls and 17th Century roof timbers.
The Farmhouse

1450

The Thatched Barn is used as a building to store tythes and rent is received from peasant farmers who are required to give one tenth of their produce to the local village church. Later the barn offers shelter to lambing ewes and cattle, alongside storage for harvested grain.

1997

Renovation work begins on the barn. The roof is restored back to the original Otmoor Reed thatch, replacing the temporary corrugated iron. Many of the original features of the historical building are restored, re-used and reinvented in the creation of the new event space.

1998

Our first wedding takes place.

2004

The venue space expands and improves with the renovation of adjoining barns to include The Cowshed, The Nook and The Shepherd’s Hut.

2020

With the onset of the global pandemic, Tythe adapts, making a temporary transition into a co-working space, called Tythe Works.

2022

Home of The Deeley’s for over 500 years, The Farmhouse undergoes a huge renovation and launches as luxury accommodation for Tythe guests.

Our Approach

Naturally, we are acutely aware of our responsibility towards the environment.

We’ve taken a number of measures to reduce our carbon footprint and to give back to the local community that we’re so much a part of. Sustainability is a fundamental part of how we operate, and we are constantly seeking new ways to be greener, more socially responsible and environmentally friendly whilst running a successful business.

"Amazing place. We had our wedding day here and I cannot say enough to make you understand how good it was. The staff at the barn made you feel like royalty and nothing was too much. From the food to the drinks to the way the day was run - it was faultless."

Becky & Olly

"We have nothing but positive things to say about the Tythe Barn in terms of both the run up to our wedding and the day itself. Needless to say the venue is absolutely stunning, however, its the support and help from the fantastic team at the Tythe Barn that really stood out. Our day was perfect and everyone was so complimentary of the venue and its team. We couldn't have been happier."

Bride

"The thing that really sets The Tythe barn apart is the people. They have the most welcoming, dedicated team who truly care so much about the barn."
